11 months old

My daughter is almost a year old...I don't know WHERE the time has gone...she is eating all kinds of finger foods, and pureed stuff, of course...lately her digestion has been sluggish, and our doctor had us eliminate grains, eggs, and banana from her diet to see how she reacts... she is a bit devestated I think, that she no longer gets her rice and Kamut puffs, which she likes to stuff in her mouth by the fist full...tonight my husband and I had burritos and had corn chips as a side, and she cou… Continue

Introducing foods to my child:

So my daughter is 7 months old on wednesday, and my pediatrician has given me the following guide lines about introducing her to food:

1) she has to be at least 6 months old
2) she has to have teeth
3) she has to be able to sit up on her own
4) she must be more interested in the food ON the utensil, than the utensil itself

Curry chicken salad and oven baked yam fries:

Today I made curried chicken salad, oven baked yam fries, and yogurt dipping sauce for lunch. I really enjoyed it. I wish I had measured, but I'm going to write down approximations so I can try to make it again:

Curry Chicken Salad:
1.5-2 chicken breasts, oven roasted with black pepper, sea salt and cut into small cubes
~1.5 Tbl garam masala ??
~ 1/8-1/4 cup of organic sunflower seeds, raw
~1/8-1/4 cup of organic pumpkin seeds, raw
~1/4 cup of finely shredded organic coconut, unsweetened
~1/4 c… Continue

Tarting it up

I love, and I hate sugar. I would like to be one of those people who doesn't crave sweets, and can happily eat a pear, or plum, and have that satisfy my sweet tooth, but alas, it is not so, not yet anyway.

I have been thinking about sugar alot, and have made strides towards turning down the volume on my sweet tooth, but its still there...I've been experimenting with leaving out sugar in things for a while, with plum cobbler, raspberry 'spread' made with no sugar pectins, and grape jelly recipes… Continue

Garlic: Plant during the World Series, harvest during the all-star break

So this year I was a little early with my garlic. Its not quite World Series time, but I planted my garlic (several varieties) On October 7th, and I was just out in the garden, and have little garlic head already sticking up through the mulch. Its very exciting. I planted a Chinese pink variety, "Music", "Bavarian", and a purple variety. Two soft neck, and two hard neck I believe, plus some shallots, and yellow, red, and multiplier onion sets. There is something very satisifying about putting al… Continue
