About the Founder

Hsiao-Ching Chou is a partner at Suzuki + Chou Communimedia, a Seattle-based public relations and communications firm. Prior to starting her business, she was the food editor at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper. She has a two-year-old daughter whom she hopes will develop a broad palate.

Welcome to Future Foodies of America

I think it's more important than ever to teach our children how to have a good relationship with food. They not only need to learn how to appreciate the pleasures of food and the communal aspect of sharing meals with family and friends, but they need to understand how to make smart choices for their own well-being and the health of the environment. I wanted to create a place where people can discuss the joys and issues related to food and family. I encourage members to start discussions in the forum or blog about what's on their minds when it comes to their future foodies. Most importantly, have fun.

Thank you,
Hsiao-Ching Chou

Headed to Portland

I'm planning a trip to Portland this weekend with my two kids. My husband is riding the STP and we're going to drive down Sunday and meet him then stay for a couple of days. I'm looking for suggestions on where to eat (good food, kid friendly) and things to do in town. Any suggestions?

Hungry Monkey: A Food-Loving Father's Quest to Raise an Adventurous Eater

This book should be required reading for Future Foodies members. Written by Seattle-based restaurant critic Matthew Amster-Burton, the tales of the authors food adventures with his four-year old (eating doughnuts, making sausage), interspersed with some good recipes, will resonate with dads and moms.

My tot (18 months) has become very interested in what I'm doing when I cook, so I've started letting her stand on a stepstool next to me on the counter. I tell her what I'm doing and let her help whenever possible. At this stage, what counts as "hel…
